Tablet Repair & Fleet Management for Schools

When a third of the trolley is out of action, it stops being an IT problem and starts being a lesson-planning one. We repair school tablets, Chromebooks and laptops in batches — education pricing, 30-day account terms, and free collection and return, so the devices leave reception and come back to it.

  • ✓ Batch pricing for education — and single devices welcome, no minimum
  • ✓ Pay on account with 30-day terms, against a PO if you need one
  • ✓ Free collection and return — by us locally, by tracked courier further out
  • ✓ 12-month warranty on every repair, free diagnosis on all of them

Most school device fleets fail in the same way. Not all at once, and not dramatically — a few screens a term, a battery that no longer sees out a morning, a charging port that has had the cable pulled sideways out of it once too often. The trolley quietly goes from thirty usable devices to twenty-two, and because no single failure is urgent, none of them gets dealt with until a whole class cannot get online.

That is the problem we solve for schools across Devon. Rather than repairing one device at a time at single-device prices, we take the batch, diagnose all of it, quote the whole lot in one go, and bring it back ready to put straight back into the trolley. You get one invoice, one date, and one person to ring.

We are an independent workshop in Tiverton — not a national chain, and not a reseller who sends your devices somewhere else. Every repair happens on our own bench, which is why we can tell you honestly which devices are worth spending the budget on and which ones are not.

The trolley tells you everything

The empty slots are the ones that cost you

Every school we talk to can tell us how many slots in the trolley are empty, and almost none of them can tell us why each device left. Devices get pulled out, put in a cupboard in the office, and quietly written off — often ones that needed an hour on a bench.

Give us the cupboard as well as the trolley. A fair proportion of what has been set aside turns out to be a screen or a charging port, and those come back into service for a fraction of what a replacement device costs.

What we do for schools

The same workshop and the same warranty as any other customer — organised around how a school actually buys and plans.

Repairs in batches, not one at a time

Send twenty devices and they are triaged together, repaired together and come back together. You get one collection, one invoice and one date to plan around, rather than twenty separate jobs to chase.

A written report on every device

Each tablet in the batch comes back with what was wrong with it, what we did, and — where it applies — what we would keep an eye on. That is the paperwork a business manager needs to justify the spend, and it is also how you spot the three devices that keep reappearing.

Volume pricing for education

A batch from a school is priced as a batch, below the single-device price, and the rate improves as the batch gets bigger. You get the figure in writing before anything leaves the site.

Pay on account, 30-day terms

Education and business customers invoice on account with 30-day terms, against a purchase order if your finance office works that way. No card at the counter, no staff member paying out of pocket and claiming it back.

Free courier collection and return

Collection and return costs you nothing. Locally — Tiverton, Cullompton, Crediton, Exeter, Wellington and the villages between — we come to the school ourselves. Further afield a tracked courier collects from reception and brings the batch back to the same place, and we cover the cost either way.

One person who knows your fleet

The same contact every time, who knows which models you run, which cases you use and what you had done last term. You are not re-explaining your setup to a call centre.

What education pricing actually means

Education work is priced per batch, not per device, and the per-device rate sits below what someone walking into the workshop with one tablet would pay. The larger the batch, the better that rate gets — a trolley's worth is priced differently from three devices in a box.

For a sense of the starting point: tablet screens start from £79, tablet batteries from £55 and tablet charging ports from £49 at single-device prices. Chromebook and laptop screens start from £79. Those are the public figures on our iPad and tablet and laptop and Chromebook pages; your batch is quoted under them.

What you will get is a single written quote covering every device in the batch, itemised, before anything is collected — not an hourly rate, and not a number that moves once we have the devices. The diagnosis costs nothing whether you go ahead or not, and if we cannot fix something you do not pay for it.

One device is a normal job too

None of this means you need a batch to use us. A single cracked iPad from one classroom is an ordinary repair — it goes on the bench at the standard price above, usually the same day, with the same 12-month warranty and the same free diagnosis. Schools often start with one device to see how it goes, and that is a sensible way to do it.

The batch pricing is simply what happens when there are enough devices to be worth pricing together. Send one, send three, send a trolley — the only thing that changes is the rate.

An exact per-device figure depends on the models you run, so the honest answer is that we quote it rather than publish it. Ring with a rough count — or with one device — and you will have a number the same week.

One batch, one bench

Assessed together, so the quote makes sense together

Diagnosing a batch in one sitting tells you things that twenty separate repairs never would — that the breakages are clustered in one year group, that a particular case is not doing its job, or that the charging ports failing all came off the same trolley shelf.

That goes in the report with the repairs. It is usually worth more to a business manager than the repairs themselves, because it is the part that stops the same bill arriving next term.

How it works

Four steps, and you approve the cost before step three.

1

Tell us what you have

Roughly how many devices, which models, and what is wrong with them — “nine iPads, mostly cracked screens, two that will not charge” is plenty to start with. A rough list is fine; we do not need an asset register.

2

We collect the batch, free

Either we come to the school ourselves or a tracked courier does, and you get a list of what was taken. Collection and return cost you nothing. If it is easier to hand them over at the workshop in Tiverton, that works too.

3

Triage, quote, then repair

Every device is diagnosed before anything is done, and you get one written quote covering the whole batch. Nothing is repaired until you have said yes to it — including the ones we think you should not spend money on.

4

Back in the trolley

The batch comes back together, each device with its report, every repair under a 12-month warranty. Cases go back on before they are returned if you sent them with us.

Tablets in scuffed protective cases left on classroom desks at the end of a lesson

Four things worth knowing before the first batch

Take the cases off if you can
The chunky rubber cases school tablets live in are the slowest part of the job to remove safely. Send them in a separate box and they go back on before the devices come home.
Time it against the term, not the week
The best time to send a batch is the back end of a term or an inset day, when the devices are not in lessons. Tell us the date they are needed back and we will tell you honestly whether it is achievable.
Newer is not always cheaper to fix
A laminated iPad Pro screen costs considerably more to replace than a base iPad screen, because the glass and display are bonded as one part. If you are choosing devices for a new fleet, that difference is worth knowing before you buy rather than after.
Charging ports are the quiet second fault
Trolley cables get yanked out sideways hundreds of times a year, and the port gives up long before the battery does. A device that “won’t charge” is very often a port, not a dead tablet — and the clean and assessment costs nothing.

Questions schools ask us

Do you offer discounted pricing for schools?

Yes. Education work is priced per batch rather than per device, and the per-device rate comes in below the walk-in price — the bigger the batch, the better it gets. Tell us roughly how many devices you have and what is wrong with them, and you will get a written quote for the whole batch before anything is collected. There is no charge for the diagnosis, whether or not you go ahead.

We have only got one or two devices — is that worth sending?

Yes, and you do not need a batch to use us. A single device is an ordinary job: standard price, free diagnosis, 12-month warranty, and usually back the same day. Plenty of schools start with one repair to see how we work before sending a trolley. Batch pricing is just what happens once there are enough devices to price together — it is not a minimum order.

Can we pay on invoice or against a purchase order?

Yes. Education and business customers pay on account with 30-day terms, and we will quote and invoice against a purchase order number if that is how your finance office works. Nobody at the school needs to put a repair on a card.

Do you collect from the school, and what does collection cost?

We collect and return free of charge, and there is no delivery line on the invoice. Across Devon — Tiverton, Cullompton, Crediton, Exeter, Wellington and the surrounding villages — we come to you ourselves. Beyond that a tracked, insured courier collects the batch from reception and returns it there, and we pay for it. Either way you get a list of what was taken at the point it is taken. If it suits you better to drop the batch at the Tiverton workshop on West Exe South, that is fine too; it is by appointment, so ring first.

How long will the devices be away from the classroom?

It depends on the batch and on what is wrong with it. A tablet screen on its own is a same-day job and a battery is an hour or two, so a straightforward batch of screens turns round quickly; a batch with liquid damage or charging-port work in it takes longer, because those need proper diagnosis rather than a part swap. We will give you a date with the quote, and we would rather tell you a realistic one than a flattering one you then have to explain to a head of department.

Can you take a whole charging trolley at once?

Yes — a full trolley is a normal size of job for us, not an unusual one. If it is easier for you to keep the trolley and send the devices, that is fine too. It is worth telling us how the devices are numbered or identified at your end so they come back in an order that means something to you.

What happens if a tablet is not worth repairing?

We tell you, and we do not charge you for finding out. On an older device the screen can cost more than the tablet is worth to the school, and there is no sense replacing it. That device comes back unrepaired with a note explaining why, and you make the call on replacing it. We would rather lose the repair than take money for one that was not a good use of the budget.

Do you work on Chromebooks and laptops as well as iPads?

Yes. Chromebooks, Windows laptops and MacBooks go through the same workshop as the tablets — screens, hinges, keyboards, batteries and charging ports. School Chromebooks tend to arrive with snapped hinges and cracked screens rather than anything electronic, and those are both repairable.

Should we take the protective cases off before sending the devices?

Please do, if you can. The thick rubber cases school tablets live in are exactly the ones that take the longest to get off safely, and stripping thirty of them is time that ends up in the quote. Send the cases with the batch in a separate box and they go back on before the devices are returned. If it is easier to leave them on, that is not a problem — just tell us.

Are the repairs guaranteed?

Every repair carries a 12-month warranty, the same as for any other customer. If a part we fitted fails through normal use within that year, we replace it at no charge. Fresh accidental damage is not covered — a tablet that has been dropped again is a new repair, not a warranty claim, and we will always be straight with you about which one we are looking at.

Who actually does the work?

We do, at our own workshop at The Old Bakery on West Exe South in Tiverton. Nothing is sent away to a third party and nothing is subcontracted, so the devices stay in Devon and there is one person you can ring to ask where they are.

Tell us about your fleet

A rough count and a rough idea of what is wrong is enough to start. We will come back with a written quote for the batch, a collection date and a realistic date for getting them back.

Or ring 01884 693694 and ask for Matt — if you would rather just talk it through, that is usually quicker.
