What a repair costs

Starting prices by device type. These are "from" prices covering the cheapest model in each range; the exact figure depends on your model and is confirmed after a free diagnostic, before any work begins. Every price includes the part, the labour and a 12-month warranty.

How to tell what's actually wrong

Most people arrive knowing something is broken but not what. A few of the faults we see most, and how to recognise them:

• It won't charge, or says "moisture detected". More often than not this is the charging port rather than the cable or the battery, and it's usually liquid related. Stop pushing the cable in harder — that damages the port further. It's a quick fix if caught early.
• The screen is cracked but still works. Worth repairing sooner rather than later. Once the seal is broken, dust and moisture get to the display and what was a glass repair becomes a display repair.
• The battery dies by mid-afternoon. Batteries are consumable and degrade with every charge cycle. If your phone is two or three years old and won't see out a day, it's normally the battery, not the phone.
• A folding phone that gaps or has a line down the crease. On Galaxy Z Fold and Flip handsets the hinge is the common failure, and a failing hinge usually takes the inner display with it. Get it seen early — it's the difference between a hinge repair and a hinge plus screen.
• It got wet. Don't charge it and don't put it in rice. Bring it in. Water damage is a strip-down and clean rather than a part swap, so it takes longer, but acting quickly makes a real difference to the outcome.

If none of that matches, that's fine — diagnostics are free and there's no charge if we can't fix it.

How long it takes

Most repairs are done while you wait. Phone screens, batteries and charging ports take about an hour. Back housings and tablet repairs take around 90 minutes — tablets have larger panels and more adhesive, and a folding phone is effectively two phones in one chassis. Water damage is the exception and needs longer, because it's a strip-down and clean rather than a straight swap. In practice, almost everything is finished the same day.

Our workshop is at The Old Bakery, West Exe South, Tiverton — but it's by appointment, not a walk-in counter. Please ring 01884 693694 before you set off. Same-day appointments are usually available, and booking means the part is ready and you're not waiting.

The parts we use

This is where cheap repairs come unstuck, so we're specific about it. On iPhone we fit original parts or premium Soft OLED equivalents matched to the original for performance and colour. On Samsung we fit genuine Samsung service parts only — aftermarket Samsung screens are widely unreliable and Samsung can disable them with a software update, and we regularly see phones killed that way after a cheap repair elsewhere. On tablets we use a mix of original and premium equivalent, whichever gives the better result. We'll always tell you which we're fitting and why.
